Aaron Sorkin has recently came out and apologized for his HBO series The Newsroom. The show, which is being canceled after the next season, stars Jeff Daniels. Daniels will also return in the highly anticipated sequel, Dumb and Dumber To.
Recently at the Tribeca Film Festival, West Wing creator and writer Aaron Sorkin was asked by former President Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau about his newfound knowledge of the media after working on The Newsroom. In response Sorkin went did what he does best...went on a long-winded rant. Walk with us and we will tell you all about what Sorkin said:
“I’m going to let you all stand in for everyone in the world, if you don’t mind. I think you and I got off on the wrong foot with The Newsroom and I apologize and I’d like to start over. I think that there’s been a terrible misunderstanding. I did not set the show in the recent past in order to show the pros how it should have been done. That was and remains the furthest thing from my mind. I set the show in the recent past because I didn’t want to make up fake news. It was going to be weird if the world that these people were living in did not in any way resemble the world that you were living in… Also, I wanted the option of having a terrific dynamic that you can get when the audience knows more than the characters do… So, I wasn’t trying to and I’m not capable of teaching a professional journalist a lesson. That wasn’t my intent and it’s never my intent to teach you a lesson or try to persuade you or anything.”
The Newsroom returns for it’s final season this fall on HBO.
However, there is one Jeff Daniels vehicle that does not need any apology is Dumb and Dumber To. Recently the movies co-writer, Peter Farley spoke to Empire about the long-awaited sequel:
“We didn’t want to make Dumb And Dumber Lite. The first one’s a high bar to beat, so whenever we came up with really dumb jokes that didn’t fit whatever movie we were working on, I just put them into the Dumb And Dumber file.”
