Dan Haseltine, the singer of the Christian group Jars of Clay, has flooded the Christian community when he came out in support of gay marriage. The singer’s support for homosexual comes after he promoted a controversial fan made music video featuring lesbians and an orgy.
Christian Dan Haseltine, front man for Jars of Clay and The Hawk in Paris, has taken up the fight for equality. Haseltine sparked a great debate within the christian community on April 21 when he tweeted.
“The treatment of people as less than human based on the color of skin is crazy... Or gender, or sexual orientation for that matter.”
Haseltine was met with a flood of criticism from the less progressive members of the Christian community. Haseltine later defended his actions in a string of tweets, writing:
“I feel it's necessary to write this again.... Everyone telling me I don't trust Scripture please read so it doesn't obscure the convo...I trust Scripture. I don't think the treatment of gays must begin with the conversation of ‘right or wrong’ we are to love either way….I hope that helps at least the folks calling me a heretic and a humanist..etc to have a little more free time. Goodnight.--Dan”
The backlash against Haseltine has not stopped but his comments has brought up some questions that needed to be asked. Haseltine has been asking people why he was meet with such hate, tweeting:
“When you looked at my tweet and it didn't line up with your belief and so you offered a hateful or judgmental response... Why?”
“If your immediate response was to get angry or to call me out as stupid or ignorant as I processed ideas in the public forum.. Why?”
Dan is definitely a more progressive Christian. He even promotes a fan made music video for his band The Hawk in Paris, that features a wild orgy and some racy scenes from the UK TV show Skins:
“Fan videos have definitely upped their game. @THEHAWKINPARIS #FREAKS Dark...super freaky, sexy... Crazy.”
