‘HIMYM’ Neil Patrick Harris on Dave Letterman After Stephen Colbert Replacement & ‘Hedwig’ Fan Curse

Tonight How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris will appear on David Letterman’s Late Show tonight. Harris will be promoting his new Broadway musical, Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Harris is recently made headlines for cursing at a fan during performance. NPH was widely rumored to replace Dave Letterman as the new host of The Late Show before it was revealed that Stephen Colbert got the job.

Neil Patrick is currently starring in the Broadway debut of John Cameron Mitchell's Hedwig & The Angry Inch. During a recent performance one of Harris’s many fans screamed out their devotion to him. Harris responded by shouting, “I’m doing something up here, motherf****r!”

A rep for Harris has since commented on the remark telling Gossip Cop:

“The response to the fan yelling was actually done in character--Neil as Hedwig, not as though Neil stopped the show to respond out of character...When the fan initially yelled, ‘I love you, Neil,’ Neil (as Hedwig) then responded, ‘Who’s Neil? I’m not Neil.’ He then looked over at Yitzhak (played by Lena Hall) and said, ‘Are you Neil? You better not be Neil’ followed by Hedwig then offering the quote in question. It was all done in good fun, and fully in the context of the show. The audience went crazy and it really was a light-hearted moment, which is not being properly contextualized in any of these various posts.”

It is likely that Harris will not be cruising at the audience tonight when he appears on The Late Show. Harris was considered a fan favorite for Letterman’s replacement, however, he shot down the rumor before Stephen Colbert was named the new host, telling The New York Observer:

"That hasn't even been a conversation at all. It would be an asinine amount of work."
