Frozen star "Let It Go" singer Idina Menzel career has taken off like a rocket ship since announcing her divorce to husband of ten years Taye Diggs. Wicked composer Stephen Schwartz revealed he was working on the silver-screen movie adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, during Menzel's New York City debut of her new original musical If/Then. Word has it that Menzel is of course at the very top of the list to play Elphaba once again.
Acclaimed Broadway composer Stephen Schwartz admitted during the NYC debut of Idina's If/Then that he was doing his best to bring Wicked to the big screen.
According to Kpop Starz Stephen is in the earliest stages of working everything out and couldn't really say what all was going to happen just yet:
"We're starting to do some work on it...We've actually started gearing up on it a little bit.
"What are we going to change? What are we going to keep?
"How do you use a whole new language and medium to tell the story?
"[We can] really look at it again and say, 'Oh, we can do this, and we've always wanted to do that and we couldn't onstage, but we can in a movie.' We're actually having a blast."
"I don't know exactly how many years away it is."
Idina is all but certain to get the part reports Show Biz Shy; source reportedly confirmed that Schwartz isn't trying to mess up what worked about the original:
"Sources say the Frozen star--who won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for originating the role of Elphaba in the blockbuster Broadway musical Wicked --has been asked to reprise her role for the silver screen.
"Glee star Lea Michele wanted the role, sources say--but because Idina is such hot property after the success of Disney movie Frozen, and is on the top of producers' most-wanted list."
If Wicked really does make it to the big-screen the producers would be crazy to go with anyone but Idina Menzel to reprise her role as Elphaba.
