Hurricane Sandy has force yet another day of closures at New York's Carnegie Hall. Nov. 2. The Hurricane has cost NYC billions of dollars and has caused significant problems for its residents, transit system and airports.
Suffering from the lack of clear transportation many businesses like Carnegie Hall are literally paying the price. The Manhattan venue has closed operations for a few days now denying fans the right of seeing the likes of the Orchestra of St. Luke's, Lang Lang and Friends and the Mariinsky Orchestra.
Postponed on Nov. 2 will be a number of acts firstly pianist Murray Perahia who was set to play in the Stern Auditorium/ Perelman Stage at 8 p.m. Perahia's performance has been moved to the Avery Fisher Hall at the Lincoln Center on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m. Ticket holders are asked to exchange their current tickets at the Avery Fisher Hall Box on Sunday, beginning at 12 p.m.
If he were to perform at Carnegie on the night he would have taken the crowd through renditions of Haydn, particularly his "Sonata in D Major, Hob. XVI: 24." He was also set to perform Schubert's "Moments musicaux, D. 780," and Beethoven's "Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp Minor, Op. 27, No.2 'Monnlight.'
Perahia was also going to play Schumann's "Faschingsschwank aus Wien, Op. 26" and Chopin's "Impromptu in F-sharp Major, Op.36" and "Scherzo No.1."
Carnegie Hall was also forced to reschedule The King Singers who were set to perform at Zankel Hall. Their performance has been moved to Monday Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 2 tickets will be honored for this new date.
The group that was set to perform comprised of countertenors David Hurley and Timothy Wayne-Wright, baritones Christopher Bruerton and Christopher Gabbitas as well as tenor Paul Phoenix and bass Jonathan Howard.
Also cancelled was visiting act Opera Lafayette and patrons with tickets will need to contact the traveling show.
Performers on the night were soprano Emmanuelle de Negri, pianist Susan Manoff, violinist Ryan Brown, Colin St. Martin on flute, cellist Loretta O'Sullivan, Andrew Appel on harpsichord and Scott Pauley on theorbo.
The group would have preformed the works of Le Camus, de la Guerre, Clerambault, Duparc, Faure and Debussy.
The other act on Carnegie's calendar is Neighborhood Concert Banda de los Muertos but no announcements have been made about this event.
