Nathan Barr is no stranger to television scores, having worked on and composed for the Netflix original Hemlock Grove and the 80s socio-political thriller The Americans.
Billboard recently caught up with the prolific composer and asked some pressing questions about Barr's upcoming collab with The Who's Pete Townshend, which will mark Townshend's first venture into writing for television.
Speaking of his endeavor for The Americans, Barr said, "The original demos I did for ("The Americans") before I got the job were influenced by those great scores from the '70s and '80s - 'Taking of Pelham One Two Three' by David Shire, prepared piano stuff in things like Lalo Schifrin's score for 'Dirty Harry'."
He continued, "That was exciting music for me to explore. The bass and prepared piano stuff in those movies is a real jumping off point for me in 'The Americans.'"
The full scoop can be found over at Billboard here, where Barr discusses everything from his initial conversations with Pete to the pivotal use of cello as a thematic device.
