iPad Mini Hits Stores Today With Lines Shorter Than Expected

The iPad Mini is being launched on Nov.5 but experts say the demand for it isn't that high as compared to past Apple products.

According to ABC the iPad Mini's launch is a little low key as compared to that of the iPhone 5 release day. Fans aren't clamoring for the new Apple hardware as yet.

Apple announced at their event last week that the new iPad would be on the market on Nov. 2 at 8 a.m. local time. With the onset of Hurricane Sandy in areas such as New York City patrons on East Coast cities will get a chance to purchase the new iPad at 10 a.m.

Despite the Hurricane Sandy New York City's flagship saw around 750 people on line for the device.

However ABC is reporting that they are fewer fans queuing up for the device in Australia and New Zealand with CNN saying that local press is reporting small lines in Japan as well.

One suggestion is that the pre ordering of the device could be the problem with customers pre ordering and then picking it up at a schedule time.

The price may be a put off for consumers according to Wired senior editor Jason Tanz. ""For $200 you can get a Nexus 7, you can get a Kindle Fire, with similar specs -- so you're really paying an Apple premium here."

Analyst like Patrick Moorehead of Moor Insights & Strategy says that the lines aren't a determining factor on the success of the new gadget.

"Lines are just one metric of excitement, and I believe the closer we get to the holiday season, sales will pick up.The iPad Mini isn't nearly as differentiated as the iPhone or the iPad 4,"said Moorhead.

Thomas Wu an Apple fan in Hong Kong told CNN. "I love Apple, I'm going to use the Mini, and give my iPad to my family."

The iPad Mini comes in 8GB, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB with the item coming in two different color combinations that of white and black and will be equipped with Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G LTE with a 7.9-inch Retina display and has a starting price of $329.
