Good Morning America co-host Robin Roberts came out last year as gay by thanking her long-time girlfriend Amber Laign for seeing her through her bout with cancer on her Facebook page. The 53-year-old television personality explained that she understood people's criticism that she waited too long to come out publicly as gay, but blamed it on Amber's shyness. It has recently been announced that Josh Elliot will be leaving GMA for CBS Sports. Rumor has it that Robin is thrilled--citing Elliot's never-ending contract negotiations as a real morale killer on the set.
Robin Roberts waited until she battled her way back from death's door, before she publicly acknowledge her homosexuality or her partner for the past decade Amber Laign.
While many people are excited to celebrate Robin's new lease on life with her, some people, perhaps in her own LGBT community, wonder why it took so long for Roberts to come out in the first place.
Roberts explained to Parade magazine, that she wanted come out a long time ago, but you know how Amber is with her always wanting to keep a secret:
"Others...were asking, 'Why didn't you say something about her before? Why are you only recognizing her now?'
"News flash: Some people like their anonymity.
"This is what's right for me. Love is love, and I'm grateful to have that. Sometimes there's a stigma attached to how people view you if you're living a certain way."
It was recently announced on GMA that Josh Elliot would be returning to the show, after a lengthy period of contract negotiations.
A source close to the behind the scene actions told ShowBiz Spy, that Robin liked Josh, but in the end, she felt it was time for him to go:
"Robin has nothing but respect for Josh--even though he was said to be jealous of her new Good Morning America deal.
"But she thought he was being way too demanding by asking their bosses for $8 million a year!
"Josh's contract negotiations were affecting morale on the GMA set, so Robin is glad they're over. She's just sad she is losing a talented colleague."
Josh Elliot is being replaced by Amy Robach, following his move to CBS Sports.
