Cirque du Soleil's "Totem," is one of the latest projects embarked on by the Quebec based performing company and like its other works it receiving very good reviews from critics the world over. "Totem will be in the United States for the tail end of this year and the early parts of the next.
Currently playing in Atlanta, Georgia the new Cirque du Soleil story will be making appearances in Miami, Florida with an opening performance on Jan. 10, with the show making its way to New York, New York and then Philadelphia Pennsylvania in 2013. No concrete date has been confirmed by the Cirque du Soleil's official website.
The Gossipqueen.nl in Amsterdam says "Cirque du Soleil steals your heart," while Ze.nl said "Forget reality and let this magical world full of spectacular acts enchant you."
The praise for the new act doesn't stop there, American based critics were also raving about "Totem." Leslie Katz of the SF Examiner, San Francisco said. "'Totem,' is an exciting display of human strength, creativity, evolution and destiny."
"'Totem,' an incredible show, one of the most magical Cirque du Soleil production in years," says Karen D'Souza of the San Jose Mercury News. Robert Hurwitt of the SF Chronicle was equally full of praise for the act labeling it as "the most enjoyable new Cirque du Soleil show to come along in quite a while."
"Totem," according to its creators is based on the evolution of, mankind from its primordial, amphibian state toward the aspiration of flight, taking inspiration from many of mankind's founding myths.
The set design of the piece centers on the shape of a turtle and mirrors that of a turtle's marshy home. With the piece featuring the elaborate structures associated with the company.
The act will feature characters like "The Amerindian Dancer, "The Crystal Man," "The Scientist" and "The Tracker."
