History Channel is more that half way through Season 2 of its Vikings series, and the show still appears to have more than enough steam to run more several more seasons to come. And with the more than $40 million they are getting for Season 3, it looks like that the show's longevity is a given. Floki has yet to betray Travis Fimmel's Ragnar Lothbrok to King Horik, though it seems only a matter of time. Plus Bjorn still hasn't truly made slave Porunn, played by Gaia Weiss, his, perhaps because of her terrible backstory, filled with hardships and rape.
History Channel has been reportedly pouring money into its original content crossover Vikings, hoping the series success will open the door to the network finally being able to just rewrite the history of the world for rating, as they see fit.
The show will have almost $41.5 million for next season production in Ireland, reports the Herald:
"The Irish film industry is set for a major boost following confirmation that a third season of drama The Vikings will be made here.
"The show, which will resume filming in Wicklow later this year, has an annual budget of €30m and will bring another huge injection of capital into the economy.
"This time around, the Irish landscape is expected to double as France as the plundering adventures of Norse warrior Ragnar Lodbrok continue."
Vikings executive producer Morgan O'Sullivan, told the publication that he imagined the series would continue to be produced for at least a few more years to come:
"These shows normally stay on air for as long as they can or until we decide as a creative unit that we've run out of steam.
"But there are so many stories to be told in this area that it could run for a number of years."
Good news for Gaia Weiss, who has only just begun to flush out her character Porunn's backstory.
Weiss told BuffFocus that Porunn had been abused in every way imaginable before appearing at the hall house of the legendary Ragnar Lothbrok:
"I think [creator, showrunner] Michael Hirst wanted to explore her experience and it's a different point of view.
"Even though she's only 20, but she's seen a lot, and she's probably already been raped at that young age.
"It's a complex and challenging role; I had a lot of questions about my character so it's nice to have Michael on set."
According to IdigitalTimes, Floki is more than likely going to make his move against his old friend Ragnar, for not living up to his high standards of piety:
"Floki switch sides and join King Horik.
"[In] "Bloodless" we see King Horik soliciting Floki saying that he could join him and build ships for him instead of Ragnar.
"In addition to that we see Floki commenting that King Horik abides by the gods and he is a more devout man than Ragnar who has sometimes expressed interest in Christianity and been open to having a Christian like Athelstan around."
Perhaps, Rollo should have finished off Floki when he had the chance.
