Russian conductor Semyon Bychkov will take hold of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) on Nov.1 to Nov. 3 at Symphony Hall.
Bychkov will lead the CSO along with mezzo-soprano Bernarda Fink, the Women of the Chicago Symphony Chorus with their director Duain Wolfe . The Amina: Young Singers of Greater Chicago and Emily Ellsworth in three nights of Mahler.
What will be on the nights is the work of Gustav Mahler particularly "Symphony No.3," it will be this piece only on show. "A symphony must be like the world," said Mahler, "it must contain everything," this was Mahler on his own piece.
Semyon Bychkov is easily recognized as one of the world's leading conductors. A native of Saint Petersburg, Russia, Bychkov has won the respect of opera houses the world over. London, Vienna, Paris, Berlin, Milan, Chicago and New York are all stomping grounds for this master conductor.
Winner of the BBC Music Magazine's Record of the Year 2010 for his recording of Wagner's Lohengrin this multi talented artist has mastered the art of conducting. He is also associated with organizations like the Royal Academy of Music in London as well as WDR Sinfonieorchester Koln in Germany.
To go with his exploits Mr. Bychkov will also be displaying his talents when he headed up operations at the Metropolitan Opera House in the Giuseppe Verdi classic "Otello," in October.
"He displays a musical rapport with the musicians that few conductors can match, and he brings out the very best in this orchestra. He has shown that many times before... There is, of course, inherent value in the hearing well-established masterpieces again and again," said the San Francisco Classical Voice.
