Spoiler Alert: It is hard to imagine, but we might soon be living a world without Law & Order. The last remaining spin-off from the original series, Law & Order: SVU, has yet to be renewed. It has been reported that problems with budget negotiations could cause the long-running show to be cancelled. However, there are still a few episodes in this season, and the show is not going out without a bang. Former cast member B.D. Wong will be reprising his role in the season finale. Meanwhile, SVU newcomer Donal Logue has been promoted to recurring character. Logue will also star as Det. Harvey Bullock in Fox’s upcoming Batman prequel series, Gotham.
The Law & Order series is a staple of TV for the past 24-years. The original series, premiering in 1990, sparked several spin-off series, including: Criminal Intent, Special Victims Unit and a L. A version just to name a few. However, the original series and all the spin-offs have come to an end, with the exception of SVU. Now it is looking like SVU might be in danger as well.
Deadline is reporting that a breakdown in budget negotiations between Dick Wolf and NBC is the reason that show has not been renewed.
B.D.Wong will return for what might end up being the series finale.
However, fans hoping to see Elliot Stabler return to show are out of luck.
During the 2014, TV Critics Association press tour, Christopher Meloni told E! News about not wanting to return to the show:
"From where I sit right now, I spent 12 years there. It was a great experience. I loved all the people, I loved the character, I just feel at this point and time it's kind of been done, for me."
