The aftermath of Hurricane Sandy has led to events previously planned for this Halloween period to be cancelled. The MTA's trains and buses are not in full service and is making it hard for New Yorkers to get around the city.
The Village Halloween Parade for the first time in its 39-year history has been forced to cancel its activities because of the freak storm Hurricane Sandy prompting this statement from the event's organizers.
"For the first time in our 39 year history, the Mayor's Office of Emergency Management and the NYPD have CANCELLED the Parade.
We hope that everyone who would have come to the Parade is safe and that those who can volunteer to help out at one of the Emergency Outreach Centers near you.
We will surely miss all of you! Hallelujah Halloween!"
According to the street party organizers the event would have taken place on Halloween Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. and revelers would have traversed Spring Street and Canal Street.
It is only for costumed masqueraders and would have had 100 puppets, 53 bands of different types of music and artist and organizers were labeling the event as a "wildly creative public participatory event in the greatest city in the world!"
The parade was founded by Mr. Ralph Lee, working with George Bartenieff and Crystal of the Theater for the New City which produced the parade for the first two years. The plan was to create an event that would run for a mile that would utilize masked performers, musicians and massive puppets.
