The National Basketball Association (NBA) got under way on Oct. 30 with high profile games like the Miami Heat against the Boston Celtics and The Dallas Mavericks playing at the revamped Los Angeles Lakers but the biggest news came from New York as it was announced that the new inner city rivalry between the New York Knicks and the recently re-branded Brooklyn Nets has to wait due to Hurricane Sandy's damage.

The game was slated for Thursday Nov. 1 at the new Barclays Center but in a joint statement by Knicks General Manager Glen Grunwald and Nets Billy King they announced that the game had to be postponed with no a makeup date for the fixture announced this according to the Washington Post.

The New York Knicks does not know if it will be able to host the Miami Heat at Madison Square Garden for their home opener. The Nets are facing similar problems for their Saturday Nov. 3 home fixture against the Toronto Raptors and Monday Nov. 5 game with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The problem at the moment for the New York based clubs is the mobility of their fans. Direct lines to the stadia are under strain due to damaged called by Hurricane Sandy.

CEO if the Brooklyn Nets Brett Yormark via the Nets official website released this statement.

"Mayor Bloomberg recommended to the NBA this afternoon that after further assessments of the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy, he felt it was in the best interests of New York City for the NBA to postpone the Brooklyn Nets-New York Knicks game scheduled for tomorrow night. As a result, the game has been postponed for a date to be determined. Tickets for the November 1 game will be honored for the rescheduled game.

The Brooklyn Nets home opener at Barclays Center will now be Saturday, November 3 against the Toronto Raptors. We will have a transportation plan in place, including additional bus options, for this game.

Saturday's game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy select food and beverage specials from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
