It seems pretty apparent at this point that Ice Cube isn't the biggest fan of the Fast franchise. The NWA rapper dismissed Fast and Furious 7 star Paul Walker and crew's win for their last action-packed, gasoline-fueled celluloid adrenaline rush, as nothing more than MTV's feeling sympathy for Walker's untimely death, though Cube immediately dialed back the rage on Twitter. Wonder what Vin Diesel might have to say about that? The action epic hero gave a tearful unaired acceptance at the MTV Music Awards, thanking everyone on behalf of Paul Walker, whose autopsy revealed was alive following the initial impact of the crash.
Ice Cube says he is sorry for making a poorly timed joke, following the MTV Music Awards about Paul Walker and the Fast and Furious 6 cast wining, due to sympathy over the actor's tragic death in a car accident last November.
Cube told USA Today Monday morning following his loss at the MTV Awards the night before, that he and his co-star deserved the trophy not Walker's crispy corpse:
"We had the best chemistry of everybody nominated, for us not to win was crazy...We were the best onscreen duo, period.
"They should have gave it to [Paul Walker] before he passed away."
The Friday icon tried to manage the immediate backlash that has erupted in the wake of his comments via Twitter, but then decided to give that up to sling home videos:
"Re: The MTV Awards. I wasn't really mad we didn't win. So I would never diss the actors who won. Not even Paul Walker. Seriously people!
"The sympathy vote: We should honor people before they die. That's all. Shame on you "make something out of nothing" ass reporters. Smh
"And Paul Walker fans don't trip. I was a fan too.
"If you can take a joke...Grab Ride Along on DVD today! If not, go to the MTV Movie Awards or something...lol"
Vin Diesel doesn't think that Paul Walkers death is anything to be "lol"ing about.
The movie macho man was moved near to tears during the pre-recorded acceptance speech he gave on Walker' behalf at the Sunday night, which unfortunately never made it to air.
In the video, since posted to Diesel's Facebook, Vin thanks the MTV viewers for making his ride with Paul possible (via Variety):
"Back in 2002, it was you, the MTV audience, that first acknowledged this brotherhood between Paul Walker and myself by honoring us with the best team on film.
"So it's surreal to be standing here 12 years later and that you have been so generous to give us this award again."
"I know he's here in spirit," Diesel said as he fought back tears. "Thank you for honoring me and, more importantly, thank you for honoring that angel--my brother Paul Walker."
Well that was heartfelt...a little creepy, but heartfelt.
