SPOILER ALERT: It is tax day and that means that good ole Uncle Sam will be coming in through the chimney tonight’s to dig in your pockets and purses. Speaking of taxing government entities, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is back with an all new episode. Last week the show tied into the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Now that the enemy HYDRA has been revealed the show is getting ready for its next crossover. In tonight’s episode Heroes star Adrian Pasdar, A.K.A. Nathan Petrelli joins the cast as Hulk hunter, Glenn Talbot. Despite probably being the best episode of the season, last week’s ratings reached a series low. Will word of mouth on the show’s mild improvement be enough drawn in viewers?
Last week Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. turned the dial up a notch...the only problem is that one notch up from bottom doesn’t get you to the top. Last week’s episode was definitely heavier on the action and plot development, something that show was lacking. However, the emergency call to action was still predictable and plagued with logic problems. Don’t believe us? Lets review:
The Clairvoyant:
Who besides Loki fan girls didn’t see this coming. John Garrett's moves were telegraphed so poorly that we predicted his secret identity after his very first appearance. However, his motivations were a little more one-dimensional then we guessed. Instead of adding any depth to the character the show decided to go for the lowest hanging fruit and blame it all on HYDRA.
Where Garrett’s penchant for showboating and exaggeration leave it open for him to be merely taking credit for things he didn’t do, a second false Clairvoyant seems a little too tiring for a show with so pacing issues.
That leads us to our next big gripe, Miss Idiot Plot Herself, Agent Hand:
Why didn’t they shoot down the plane. Really, they are outnumbered by HYDRA agents and they are so sure that Coulson and his team are enemies that attack their plane the minute it lands but they wouldn’t shot it down? Even Agent Hand finds herself questioning why she didn’t do it. Granted if they shot the plane down we would not have a show anymore, but would that really be a bad thing?
Knowing full well that Ward shot and killed the decoy Clairvoyant, she decides to allow her to accompany her to the Fridge where she is taking his former mentor. If you didn’t see what happened next coming then maybe Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. really is the perfect show for you.
Seriously...The known killer ask to accompany the prisoner who happens to be his former S.O. and you just let him. You also hand him the gun...Really! Really!
Now it is entirely likely that is all an elaborate ruse designed to get Ward inside the inner workings of HYDRA, but would that really be satisfying?
Also...Why does S.H.I.E.L.D. keep its prisoners in the same building that they keep their most dangerous secrets? This is the same logic that lead to them building a flying air-base and thinking three gun ships could take over the world.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D returns with new episodes tonight at 8:00 p.m.
