Hurricane Sandy, NJ Transit In Disarray This Halloween (SEE SCHEDULE)

Although New York received major damage from Hurricane Sandy it was New Jersey that felt the brunt of the storm's fury. Sandy made landfall at 6:03 p.m. on Oct. 29 in Jersey carrying 90 mile per hour winds and an eye 900 miles wide.

The hurricane has damaged property and has claimed many lives leaving the state of New Jersey with inadequate transport. Like the MTA in New York the NJTransit is suffering from an ailing railway and train line service.

James Simpson commissioner of the state Department of Transportation said that powerlines and trees fell into railway tracks across the state, several bridges were damaged from storm surges, facilities suffered flooding and section's of NJTransit's North Jersey Coast were washed away. He also added that a popular path for New York City bound commuters was also affected this according to The Wall Street Journal.

"There is major damage on each and every one of New Jersey's rail lines," said New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie during a news conference on Tuesday. He also said that NJTransit's 11 commuter rail ways all took damage from the storm.

Officials have also confirmed that two tugboats have collided with the Coast Line's Raritan River Draw Bridge while at Morgan Drawbridge three boats and two cargo containers crashed. John Durso a spokesman for NJTransit said, "The boats are being removed from the bridge."

Hoboken, Secaucus and Newark Penn Station were all flooded as well as PATH stations. The tunnels of the state got damaged, with floods in Newark Light Rail tunnels, while wires came down at the Port Imperial station that give service to the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail.

Officials are finding it increasingly difficult as their facilities were hit by Sandy. NJTransit maintenance facility in Kearny say that over there has been flooded out by the marshes in the area.

Durso said "It is a painstaking process. Our customers should not expect the system to resume immediately." The NJTransit man said that buses will resume sooner than train service.
