It is the beginning of the end of the hit Adult Swim series The Boondocks. The show is about to begin its fourth and final season next Monday April 21. The season premiere will mark the very first episode without Aaron McGruder. McGruder, the creator of the series, recently announced his departure from the series, however, he is working on a new show, titled Black Jesus. Speaking of endings, things are not looking good for FX’s Chozen. Where nothing has been confirmed, the show’s low ratings have sparked cancellation rumors.
We have good news and bad news for fans of the Boondocks. The good news is that the show is about to return for its final season next Monday night on Adult Swim. The bad news is that series creator Aaron McGruder will not be returning. McGruder recently released a statement, saying goodbye to the Freeman’s:
"As the world now knows, The Boondocks will be returning for a fourth season, but I will not be returning with it. I'd like to extend my gratitude to Sony and Adult Swim for three great. I created The Boondocks two decades ago in college, did the daily comic for six years and was showrunner on the animated series for the first three seasons. The Boondocks' pretty much represents my life's work to this point. Huey, Riley and Granddad are not just property to me. They are my fictional blood relatives. Nothing is more painful than to leave them behind.”
However, despite the pain that McGruder is going through, he is not bitter, adding:
"To quote a great white man, 'Hollywood is a business.' And to quote another great white man, 'Don't hold grudges.'”
"What has never been lost on me is the enormous responsibility that came with 'The Boondocks' -- particularly the television show and its relatively young audience. It was important to offend, but equally important to offend for the right reasons. For three seasons I personally navigated this show through the minefields of controversy. It was not perfect. And it definitely was not quick. But it was always done with a keen sense of duty, history, culture and love. Anything less would have been unacceptable.”
However, McGruder will not be leaving Adult Swim for long as he went on to add:
"As for me, I'm finally putting a life of controversy and troublemaking behind me with my upcoming Adult Swim Show, 'Black Jesus.' "
Now to switch channels from Adult Swim to FX, the animated series Chozen may have already ended. The show lost half the viewers over the course of its run. It has yet to be confirmed but the show is likely facing cancellation. Do you want to see the show go? Let us know in the comments section below.
