Comedian Chris Rock is in line to make big theatrical appearances at the L.A Theater Works come Jan. 31 to Feb. 2 in six showings in 2013.
The Hollywood actor will be in Adly Guirgis' "The Mother...With the Hat," where he with team up with Broadway duo Bobby Cannavale and Elizabeth Rodriguez.
Rock's role is that of a counselor mentoring a former drug dealer played by Cannavale who is learning to readjust to life outside prison according to the Los Angeles Times.
Guirgis' play was up for six Tony Award nominations which included the best play award and according to the Times the play was developed at the Ojai Playwrights Conference before it it was on Broadway last year at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater.
This will be Rock's first stage play he took to the production when it was on offer in 2011. The stand up comedian first got his first major gig in 1984 in New York City's "Catch a Rising Star."
His film career has really taken off being in such movies as "Beverly Hill Cops II," "New Jack City," "Osmosis Jones," "Pootie Tang" and the "Madagascar," series.
Even more popular was his own sitcom called "Everybody Hates Chris," which is show set in the 1980s in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn which is centered on Rock and his family while he was growing up in school. The program ran from 2005 to 2009 and won numerous awards and swayed over critics with its tackling of sensitive issues such as race and classicism in American in a humorous way.
