This season, at Brooklyn's own Academy of Music (BAM), dance and its many forms will take to the stage coming at you with an unorthodox performance by France's leading repertory company, a 10th anniversary of one of New York's most versatile ballet troupes and, in addition, an electrifying movement with music from Madagascar.
So thanks to the fine folk at BAM, here are a select few performances worth the ticket, so be on the look:
May 18-26 : The nation's largest festival dedicated to African dance returns for its 37th year, welcoming Madagascar-based music and dance troupe Bakomanga.
Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet 10th Anniversary Celebration
Jun 11-14 : The virtuosic dance company celebrates a decade and makes its BAM debut, performing commissioned works by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Crystal Pite, Hofesh Shechter, and more.
Lyon Opera Ballet
May 7-9: BAM welcomes back the bold contemporary French dance company as part of the citywide celebration DANSE: A French-American Festival of Performance and Ideas.
April-November: David Dorfman Dance, CONTRA-TIEMPO, and Mark Morris Dance Group take part in the fourth season of DanceMotion USA(sm), a cross-cultural exchange program of the State Department, produced by BAM.
