Warning Spoilers Follow: The fifth and possibly final season of NBC’s cult college comedy, Community, is about to come to an end. With only two episodes left, the show has yet to be renewed or canceled. However, it would be a shame if they got cancelled, being so close to their desired, “Six seasons and a movie,” goal. If they are going to go out this year, they are going to go out with a bang. In tonight’s all new episode, Jeff and Britta talk about getting married.
The official plot synopsis for tonight’s all new episode of Community, titled,”Basic Story,” reads:
“Subway plans to purchase the Greendale campus and establish a Subway University in its place. Meanwhile, Jeff considers an employment offer from Subway; Britta ponders an offer from Jeff; and Annie and Abed obtain information about Greendale's first dean, which leads to a discovery within the school's walls.
The story continues in next week’s season finale, titled, ”Basic Sandwich.” The plot preview for that episode reads:
“The history of Greendale's first dean is uncovered in the Season 5 finale. Meanwhile, Annie and Abed search for an abandoned computer lab; Chang becomes involved in Subway's plan to take over Greendale; and Jeff and Britta make a decision about their futures.”
Could Subway’s involvement in the show mean that we might actually see “Six seasons and a movie?’” The line spoken by Abed earlier on the series, has been adopted as the show’s mantra. Not only has Subway helped to save the struggling series before, but they also helped Chuck stay on the air.
Series creator Dan Harmon seems hell bent on finishing out his vision, with or without any help. Harmon recently spoke to Hitfix about making the movie work:
"If the movie has to be made out of clay and duct tape in my basement, then that's how the movie will be made, because there has to be closure. The title of the book about the show is not ‘Community, An Interesting Journey into a Show No One Ever Watched.’ The title of the book is obviously going to be, ‘Six Seasons and a Movie.’"
