Oncoming Hurricane Sandy has forced many cultural shows on America's east coast to close its doors for at least Monday Oct. 29 according to the LA Times.
Sandy which started off as a category one hurricane in the West Indies is now barreling up the American east coast and will probably affect the New York City area and the region of New England.
The storm has already claimed more than 40 lives in the Caribbean leaving officials in American states to take no chances.
Broadway acts in New York such as "Annie," "Chicago," "Rock of Ages," "Annie," "Evita," "Phantom of the Opera," "Mamma Mia!," "Newsies" and "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark have all been cancelled due to the violent weather.
According to the LA Times The Metropolitan Opera House has also closed its showing of "Le Nozze di Figaro," a Jonathan Miller production with the next airing of the piece slated for Nov. 3 and the last show coming on Saturday Nov.19. There is no word as yet regarding "Turnadot," which is set for an Oct. 30 performance.
Carnegie Hall is another institution that had to close up for this storm. The Manhattan venue was about to have performances from Idina Menzel and the duo of mezzo-soprano Jadranka Jovanovic and pianist Nikola Rackov but was force to abandon due to the weather. Menzel's performance however will be moved to Sunday. Lang Lang and Friends could be affected by the storm as it was set to come off Oct. 30.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art has also been shut down by the city this according to the Times.
