China continues to clamp down on the flow of web based traffic as it has now blocked highly accredited New York Times from users in mainland China according to the Times.
The Asian nation blocked the news outfit because they had published an article that displayed the wealth gathered by the family of country's prime minister and according to the Times the nation is trying to block any mention of Wen Jiabao the Chinese prime minister on social sites like Sina Webo a Twitter like website.
China is notorious for blocking content on the web. Rebecca McKinnon of the New America Foundation said. "This is what they do: they get mad, they block you."
Eileen Murphy a spokesperson for The Times said that website had "great interest," in China and went on to say.
"We hope that full access is restored shortly, and we will ask the Chinese authorities to ensure that our readers in China can continue to enjoy New York Times journalism."
The New York Times has both an English language and Chinese language website on mainland China and said that by 7 a.m. Friday all activity for the Times was blocked in the 31 Chinese cities tested.
In statement by The Times the news place said it saw China "as increasingly open society, with increasingly sophisticated media. The response to our site suggests that The Times can play an important role in the government's efforts to raise the quality of journalism available to Chinese people."
