"Un Ballo in Maschera," another of Italian Giuseppe Verdi's works will make its debut at the Metropolitan Opera House come Thursday, Nov. 8 and will run through until Friday, Dec. 14.This opera is approximately three and a half hours long and is a production of Mr. David Alden and will have a vast price range of $20 to $340.
Alden called upon conductor Fabio Luisi to direct musical proceedings throughout the 10 day running of "Un Ballo in Maschera."
The producer has chosen one set of performers for this piece and they will be along for the duration of the play unlike some shows who like to chop and change cast. The role of "Amelia," has been given to veteran soprano Sondra Radvonovsky.
"Oscar," shall be played by South Korean Kathleen Kim while "Madame Arvidsson," will be tasked by mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick.
Marcelo Alvarez an Argentine tenor will be the character known as "Gustavo III" and the final cast member of the play will be baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky and he was casted as "Anckarstrom."
The production team for "Un Ballo in Maschera," will be set designer Paul Steinberg with Brigitte Reiffenstuel having duties as costume designer in this David Alden production. Adam Silverman is the lighting designer and choreography was done by Maxine Braham.
"Un Ballo in Maschera," is set in the royal kingdom of the Swedes. A prophecy by "Madame Arvidsson," an accused witch entangles the king, "Gustavo III," with husband and wife pair "Anckarstrom" and "Amelia." This dark prophecy says that "Gustavo," will be killed by a dear friend and a plot to end his life is drummed up by conspirators.
