Microsoft Surface will look to enter the handheld market on Friday, Oct. 26 in New York and on Oct. 27 on the stroke of midnight everywhere else this according to CNET.com.
In a tablet world populated by the Apple's iPad line that includes the newly launched iPad Mini, Amazon's Kindle series that has the Paperwhite and the Nexus 7 from Google, the Microsoft Surface will have immediate competition.
The Microsoft Surface will be available at the 32 GB version at $499 while the 64 GB unit will ship at $699. The thickness of the tablet will be 9.3mm and the screen is 10.6-inches (diagonally) with a Clear Type HD Display. The connections are a microSD slot, USB 2.0, Micro HD Video, 2x2 MIMO antennas this according to Newsday.
Microsoft Windows President Steven Sinofsky said at the launch event. "Is it a tablet? Is it a laptop? What category does it goin? It's not just a tablet, but it's the best tablet I've ever used It's not just a laptop, but it's the best laptop I've ever used."
Microsoft is also set to launch a Windows Pro version of the Surface.According to Newsday the item will be around 2 lbs and thickness will be 13.5mm. Diagonally the device will be 10.6-inches with a Clear Type Full HD Display and will carry the same connections as the device that is set for the Friday launch.
The new hardware will be available in 64 GB and 128 GB capacities respectively. No price or date has been released for this version.
