Warning Spoilers Follow: Put away your bathing suits, and crank up the heater, because winter is almost here. The HBO series, Game of Thrones, kicks of its fourth season this weekend, and that means there will be blood. Lots and lots of blood. In a show like Game of Thrones, anyone can die. Rumor has it that King Joffrey and Tyrion Lannister are next on the death list.
Do you love Game of Thrones? Well you know what they about loving and losing. You can’t get too attached to anyone in the Seven Kingdoms. The axe just might fall on the characters you love or hate the most. Perhaps two of the characters that best fill both descriptions are King Joffrey, (Jack Gleeson) and Tyrion Lannister, (Peter Dinklage).
Joffrey currently sits on top of the Iron Throne, and that means that there a target on his head at all times. Could the brat king bite the big one in the season premiere? Actor, Jack Gleeson, who otherwise is best known as the little kid from Batman Begins, has previously hinted that he wants to put showbizz behind him, so that tells us that he might not mind getting the sword this season.
Meanwhile, the other choice we want to explore is his uncle, Tyrion Lannister. The quick witted imp, has a way with words, and a way of not knowing when to shut up. He recently got on King Joffrey’s bad side, and if it wasn’t for his family connections then he would likely not be alive. However, his get out of death free card is almost all used up and the former Hand of the King may have overplayed his hand. Peter Dinklage recently teased some very unhappy times for his character.
The half-man, may be related to the cruel king, but the two couldn’t be more different. Tyrion’s strength is his brains, but he has definitely proven to have a good heart. With the combination of the two, Tyrion might just have what it takes to make to the end of the game. (end of the song, for all you book readers.) However, Peter Dinklage has recently teased his character's demise in a few interviews, although to be fair he has not read the books.
Now that is the real key to learning who will meet their end. The books. The show is an adaptation of George. R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, and stays very close to the source.
Warning we are now crossing over from rumor to true spoiler. Do not read if you don’t really want to know what happens in the books.
If Peter Dinklage had read the books, then he would know that his character alive in the series. Where there could change with the release of the next book, the character is assumed to be safe for the season or two.
However, Joffrey might not have as long. The wicked King, is dead, dead, dead, in the books. As for how he dies, well lets just say that Joffrey is about to get married, and we all know how weddings go on Game of Thrones.
