HBO has a lot of good show’s on the plate. However,with True Detective, Game of Thrones, Girls, True Blood, and plenty of other excellent series to wet your appetite, you are bound to have some Leftovers. Now HBO has announced the premiere date for the new series, starring Justin Theroux and Dr. Who’s Christopher Eccleson.
HBO is getting Biblical in their show, The Leftovers. SPOILER ALERT* This article contains spoiler from the christian Bible. *** The new series is about a group of “survivors,” who are left on the earth following the rapture. The rapture being the apocalyptic Biblical event, where all believers are taken to heaven, and all the nonbelievers are well..leftover. However, it should be noted that in the series, it's ambiguous as to whether or not the rapture they experiences is the Biblical one.
The new series is based on the Tom Perrotta's 2011 novel of the same name. HBO has now announced the official premiere date for the new series. The show will debut on June 15, following the season finale of the hit series, Game of Thrones.
HBO has found great success adapting novels for television. The aforementioned Game of Thrones is based off of George. R.R. Martin’s fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire: Game of Thrones. The epic drama has become one of the most highly acclaimed shows on TV. The new season will debut this Sunday, April 6.
HBO has also found great success with their loose adaptation of Charlaine Harris’ The Southern Vampire Mysteries, True Blood. The seventh and final seasons of the hit series will premiere one week after The Leftovers, on June 22.
The Leftovers will piggy back with True Blood for nine weeks of it’s ten week run. True Blood will air at 9:00 p.m. with The Leftovers following at 10:00 p.m.
With such a strong lead in, it is entirely possible that HBO may have another hit on their hands. Well if that is not enough to convince viewers to tune in, then maybe the cast list might help.
The Leftovers stars, Justin Theroux in the lead opposite, Amy Brenneman. Dr. Who and Thor: The Dark World star, Christopher Eccleston, plays Matt Jamison, a former pastor turned tabloid publisher, making the switch from Gospel to gossip rag.
Liv Tayler, Ann Dowd, Max and Charlie Carver round out the rest of cast.
