Nathan Fillion’s ‘Firefly’ Season 2 Reboot Rumors, Fake or Real?

There is “a very special level of hell. A level they reserve for child molesters and people who talk at the theater.” Now you can add people who post fake news stories on April Fools Day to Shepherd Book’s list. It is that kind of story that had everyone believing that there was going to be a Season 2 of Firefly. But, don’t lose hope just yet Nathan Fillion fans. There has been some pretty real talk about making a limited series reboot of the show.

If you logged onto social media on Tuesday, then you were no doubt exposed to thousands of lies. From the countless number of faux pregnancies, to the vast amount of phony marriages, almost everything you heard on April was a big fat lie. However, there was no lie bigger, fatter and worst then when some uncharitable folks made us believe that Netflix was rebooting the short lived, but much loved Fox series, Firefly.

The fake news story read:

“‘Continuing our tradition of breaking new ground, Netflix is proud to announce that we have reached a deal with 20th Century Fox Television to produce 26 new episodes of Joss Whedon’s critically-acclaimed series FIREFLY,’said Netflix Senior VP of Development Lirpa Sloof in a statement released today.’Gripping, serialized one-hour dramas have become an integral aspect of the Netflix experience over the years and FIREFLY, thanks to Joss Whedon’s unique vision and his remarkable group of actors, goes a long way in helping to further our commitment to bringing our audience the best entertainment Hollywood has to offer.’”

It is worth noting that Lirpa Sloof is not the Senior VP of Development at Netflix, but is, infact, April Fools spelled backwards.

However, there might be hope that the crew of the Serenity could fly again. Recently, Firefly writer and producer Tim Minear told Entertainment Weekly about possibly bringing back the show:

“I would never foreclose the possibility. The fact that it was even a feature film after it spectacularly failed on Fox was a miracle. And of course it lives on in other forms. In terms of getting the band back together to make a new adventure, who knows? I would love it. It would be great. But first everybody has their respective projects that limits them from crossing over into other things. It’s just trying to coordinate everybody’s obligations so they could somehow participate.”
