The CW has no shortage of young heroic types. So the network's talent pool is the perfect place to look if you are trying to fill out DC’s roster. First, Stephen Amell turned his brief stint on The Vampire Diaries into a starting gig on The Arrow. Now, TVD’s Steve Mcqueen might step up to play Batman’s former sidekick, Nightwing. McQueen has openly expressed his interest in the role. He has also been talking about his excitement to see his boy, Colton Haynes, become Nightwing's fellow Teen Titans member, Speedy, A.K.A Arsenal, A.K.A, The Red Arrow.
The Arrowverse is building. From The Suicide Squad to the Birds of Prey, many of DC’s best teams are joining forces on the hit CW series. Now it looks they are starting to build the Teen Titans on the show.
Not only is the Titans arch villain, Slade Wilson, A.K.A. the lead baddie this season, but he has also helped spawn Ollie’s sidekick, Roy Harper. Now it is looking like Harper (Colton Haynes) might soon take up his own superhero identity.
Arrow executive producer and writer Marc Guggenheim recently spoke with Collider about the matter:
“We want to keep inching Roy towards an Arsenal place. One of the runnings gags is that he keeps getting called Speedy and says, ‘I don’t like that nickname. Come up with another nickname for me.’ When the time is right, eventually the nickname that will stick will be Arsenal, but the time has to be right.”
Speaking of sidekicks, Batman’s former sidekick Nightwing might be making the trip to Starling City soon. Steven McQueen has been teasing his involvement in the series.
Arrow star Stephen Amell has danced around the issue, in a recent Q and A session where he said:
“You gotta love the internet. should start tweeting Shonda Rhimes that I want to play Kerry Washington’s long lost brother on Scandal just to see how quickly the rumor will take hold.”
The new episode of Arrow airs tonight at 8:00 p.m. on the CW.
