Hurricane Sandy is gaining momentum as it has been up graded to a category two hurricane and according to Boston.com the path of the storm could end up impacting the New England region as soon as Sunday.
The hurricane overnight strengthen as it made its way through the Caribbean bashing Jamaica, Cuba and most recently the Bahamas. While in Cuba, Hurricane Sandy provided winds that registered as 110 miles per hour and now experts says that the path of the storm could have numerous paths it could take according to computer models.
Sandy will according to officials run parallel to the East Coast and will continue to affect the Bahamas as a strong hurricane. Florida and Southern Georgia will have strong winds and heavy rains. Experts say that if the tropical storm keeps taking this northerly path that will eventually path that it will mix with colder water it could be cold core storm.
Most computer models however agree that Hurricane Sandy will end up as large storm in Northern Maine/Southern Canada early next week. Experts say that the storm's path will be determined by jet streams in the region. Jet streams are fast flowing, narrow air currents found in the atmospheres of some planets, including Earth.
The best possible situation according to Boston.com is that the New England region will receive increased cloud cover and drizzles of rain in the beginning of next week providing that the storm moves away from the American coast.
If not the region could be looking at hurricane force winds and inland areas could have up to 3-6" of rain causing flooding. The beached regions of the area will be prone to erosion as well.
