This week in the New Yorker, John Lahr profiles Susan Stroman. This time, for an adaptation of Bullets Over Broadway.
And yet, earlier in her career, Stroman conceived a dance show with partner Jeff Veazey, entitled Trading Places, in which they recreated works from some of the world's most famous dance teams.
Sadly, Veazey died form complications after contracting the AIDS virus at the age of 33.
But for you Classicalites, we were able to nab the HTML of Stroman and Veazey dancing in tandem with Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell to Begin the Beguine.
This would be the last time Stroman and Veazey would dance together.
As Lahr puts it, "Everything about the conceit of dancing with Astaire and Powell corrupts me with pleasure. I especially like the way Stroman and Veazey make their entrance, and the athleticism of their footwork when the music drops out and the only sound is the syncopation of their tapping feet."
"It's everything that Stroman is: talented, concentrated, and joyous," he concludes.
Nicely stated, too, by Mr. Lahr.
So, here's that video for you all, in which even the most ignorant of dancers will find deep-seated appreciation.
