Tonight is the night. The big series finale of the hit CBS sitcom, How I Met Your Mother airs tonight, and we finally get to find out how Bob Saget met Ted Mosby’s mommy….wait, that is not right. Anyhow, Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and Robin (Cobie Smulders) got married last week. Celebrate with the happy couple at the reception tonight. If you wanna catch up with the series, or if you just want to relive some of your favorite moments, FX is running a marathon until 7 p.m.
How I Met Your Mother is ending its impressive nine season run tonight. The whole season has been building up to the wedding between Barney and Robin. Now that the two have said I do, we can get to what the show has been building towards this whole time. Future Ted Mosby finally tells his kids how he met their mother.
The show’s long run is extra impressive considering it's a very unusual format. The show’s blend of framework and flashbacks can confuse the casual viewer. The show’s co-creater and executive producer Carter Bays knows this, telling TV Guide:
"I think [that] the best format for this series is ultimately as a download or a DVD--a binge-watch."
Bays’ fellow co-creator and executive producer Craig Thomas also added:
"I think we should've been on Netflix. Maybe people wouldn't have been as upset at us. We could've been the first House of Cards!"
The show’s success is thanks in part to its amazing cast. Alyson Hannigan recently tweeted her goodbyes to the series:
“I am officially wrapped from How I Met Your Mother!!! It has been a true pleasure to be a part of this family. Thankyouthankyouthankyou!!!”
The final episode airs tonight at 8:00 p.m. on CBS.
