‘Frozen’ Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs Divorce; Channels Split for ‘If/Then’ Broadway Debut

It might seem like a blessing in disguise for Frozen star Idina Menzel, announcing her divorce from husband of ten years Taye Diggs, before debuting an original musical on Broadway exploring similar themes. But Idina admits that she can't bear the strain of channeling the emotions from her recent martial split into her If/Then performance every night.

Idina Menzel's If/Then has already made almost 2 million dollars during its first Broadway run, and it doesn't even officially debut until tonight.

And no one could deserve the success more than Broadway staple Idina Menzel, who is dealing with the end of her ten year relationship to actor Taye Diggs.

While the separation hasn't gotten ugly publicly, Menzel told USA Today that there was far too much pain there to use it in her performances:

"If I just used all of my own life for the show, eight times a week, I'd want to kill myself.

"You have to know how to pace yourself, and to pull from different places. Luckily, the story here is so well-written that I can use a lot of what's right in front of me, and not leave feeling completely drained each time."

She went on to admit to the news outlet, that truth be told Menzel needs the support structure that working with old friends provides, even more than she needed something worthwhile to perform:

"It was important to me to be in an original piece, as I always support original material..."And I would have worked with this team, frankly, if they had handed me the phone book."

Her If/Then debut marks the first time the star will have to deal with the stress and strains of a nightly Broadway, since becoming a parent, but Idina told USA Today, that she wouldn't change it for the world:

"I have taken my kid on the road with me, on a tour bus.

"But now I'm also getting him to school in the morning, and dealing with his coming home with colds, which could get me sick. But nothing is more important than my child, and it gives you perspective.

"Actors can be self-absorbed, but when you have less time, you have to be result-oriented. You have to always be in the moment."

Yeah, whatever...she better not let that snot nosed little brat hold up this money train.
