Warning Possible Spoilers Follow! Robert Downey Jr’s world changed when he landed the role of Iron Man. Now the ageing actor is gearing up to hand over the role. During a recent interview, RDJ opened up about the possibility of leaving the hero biz behind. It has been reported that Tony Stark’s long-lost brother, Arno Stark, might be replacing him in the Iron Armor. Meanwhile, Jeremy Renner’s life might change soon. RDJ teased that Hawkeye actor has a much bigger role in the upcoming Marvel movie, Avengers 2: Age of Ultron.
Robert Downey Jr loves playing Iron Man. However, even his love can not overcome the effects of age. Or maybe it is the overwhelming amount of money that he has compelling him not to work another day in his life.
Whatever the reasons, Robert Downey Jr will not be playing Tony Stark for too much longer. In a recent interview with Variety about his future as Iron Man, Rob said:
“The smart money is you have to look at everybody’s age. I’ll put myself at the top of the list. Sooner or later, they’ve got to start over and get somebody young. I’m not there with them yet. It really is the closest thing to being a beloved contract player with a big old-timey studio that there is right now. When you really think about it at the end of the day, these films are entertainment largely driven by young folks. There is something very honorable about that. I run into kids wearing “Captain America” masks. My kid believes that Captain America is real.”
In the comics, Tony’s long lost foster brother Arno Stark has recently appeared. In an alternate comics universe, Arno Stark was Iron Man’s nephew and went under the name Iron Man 2020. Could we see a cinematic version of Arno replace Tony in the movies.
However, we know that Robert Downey Jr will be back in the upcoming Avengers 2: Age of Ultron. Downey went on to talk about Hawkeye’s role in the new film:
“This one is a very ambitious sequel. If you read it, it’s dense, it’s smart. Joss [Whedon] is a really smart guy. My 2-year-old is crazy about Hawkeye, and I think Jeremy [Renner] has a lot to do with the plot. There’s always so many plates to spin to get these things half-right, and I’m really excited about this one.”
