Earlier this week, long standing rumors that Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband Chris Martin were getting a divorce proved true. Now new reports suggest that Martin is depressed about the breakup and that he did everything he could to save the marriage, including suggesting that they move back to London.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin announced their upcoming and long rumored divorce on the actress' lifestyle blog, Goop, in a joint statement, writing:
“It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate. We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate. We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been. We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and co-parent, we will be able to continue in the same manner.”
An unnamed source recently spoke to HollywoodLife.com, claiming that Chris Martin is not taking the breakup well:
“Chris is devastated. He suggested counseling, he even suggested they move back to London but ultimately that just didn’t work out for them...This has been a long time coming.”
Last year, Paltrow opened up to Red about her plans to move the children back to London:
“I don’t want my children to be teenagers in LA. No way. I’m looking at this move to America like two years, three years tops--then we will go back. It’s part of my parenting philosophy that children should get the opportunity to reinvent themselves at a few points in their childhood to see where their strengths and weaknesses lie and to experience living in different cultures. It’s an experiment.”
