Spoiler Warning! Last week the CW dropped The 100 down to earth. The new post-apocalyptic drama is about 100 (well, now 98) juvenile delinquents sent down to a radioactive Earth to see if they can survive. What could go wrong? The new series is based on the novel of the same name, which also serves as a modern adaptation of The Lord of the Flies. Check out the preview of tonight’s all new episode to see what is in store for the new series.
If you missed last week’s premiere of The 100 on the CW, then you missed a beautiful spectacle that has the potential to be something very good, but could very easily go wrong. The post-apocalyptic teen drama is based on the book by the same name from author Kass Morgan.
The book and the show both share many similarities with the classic novel, The Lord of The Flies. Executive producer on Rothenberg made the connections quite clear, as The Fresno Bee reports:
"I love 'Lord of the Flies.' It was one of those books that I could blame for the fact I'm a writer, and so, it's deliberate. We are telling that story. Certainly for the first run of episodes, it's about what they, the kids, are doing to each other. Some want to hold on to rules and order and society and discipline. Others are going to go wild. They're going to go native...If this 'Lord of the Flies' dynamic isn't overcome, if they can't work out their internal crap, if they don't stop killing each other, then this external threat that's out there is going to wipe them out. It really becomes an existential threat to them."
However, it is not all about the kids, as Rothenberg adds:
"On the ark, their parents, the survivors that are up there, for them it's life and death from the jump. And really there's a very similar dynamic at play up there. How dark are they going to go? How many people will they sacrifice in order to ensure that the human race goes on? And so these things, to me it's not about kids. It's not about teen-agers. It's about people. It's about the drama on both levels."
The official plot synopsis for tonight’s new episode, titled “Earth Skills,” reads:
“A search-and-rescue mission ends in surprise. Meanwhile, Raven helps Abby craft an escape pod.”
Check out the new episode tonight on The CW at 9:00 p.m. after Arrow.
