Tonight is the end of an era. The long running USA Network series Psych is saying goodbye. The series finale may air tonight, but that doesn’t mean that this will be the last time we will get to see James Roday and Dule Hill together as Shawn and Gus. There has been talk of a possible Psych movie or even spin-off, following the final episode.
James Roday recently spoke to TVGuide.com about saying goodbye to the long running sereis:
"It's no great mystery now that we knew we were making the last season of Psych the whole time,I think there's a lot of love and a lot of history and a lot of goodwill between Psych and the USA Network, and it was one of those things where they were 99.9 percent sure we were finished, but nobody actually wanted to push the button. Nobody actually wanted to let go because once you make the press release, once you put it out there that the show is ending, the show is ending."
However, it has been said that tonight might not be the last adventure for Shawn and Gus. Recently USA Network President Chris McCumber teased the possbitly of life after Psych, when he spoke to TV Line:
“ Psych’ has made an indelible imprint on the television landscape, with a unique brand of comedy. [...] The final season celebrates the iconic characters that have made this show so beloved, and will be an exclamation point on the series’ incredible run. And while the series will wrap in March, somehow I don’t believe we’ve heard the last of Shawn and Gus.”
Now the question is what does McCumber’s comments mean? Could the characters return in a movie? How about a web series or even a Christmas special? Better yet, could there be a spin-off series?
In what way would you like to see the Psych gang return? Let us know in the comments section below. Besure to check out the series finale tonight at 9/8c on USA.
