The Mega Millions lottery game was hemorrhaging money last week. Not only did they give away two winning tickets for last Wednesday's $414 million jackpot, but they also handed out $5 million on Friday. Check out the sneak peek below to see what is up for grabs in this week's giveaway.
The once mighty Mega Millions jackpot has been reduced to a meager $20 million for this Tuesday’s drawing. The new estimated cash value is an even more depressing $11 million.
Fortune seekers can thank two lucky winners of last week's game for the low numbers. The official Mega Millions lottery website reports on the story:
“Maryland is once again the home of a Mega Millions jackpot after selling one of the winning tickets for last night’s drawing. The winning ticket, which was sold at Lady’s Liquors located at 6474 Crain Highway in La Plata, matched all six numbers including the Mega Ball. The $414 million jackpot has a cash option of $230.9 million. Since there were two winning tickets sold nationwide, after taxes the Maryland winner will take home approximately $76.4 million if choosing the cash option. For selling the winning ticket, Maryland will receive more than $10.1 million in tax revenue. The winning numbers were 11, 19, 24, 33, 51, and Mega Ball 07.
In addition to the big winner, there was a $1 million second-tier winning ticket sold at Waterbury Liquors located at 1021 Generals Highway in Crownsville. That winner matched the first five winning numbers, missing only the Mega Ball.
This is the first Mega Millions jackpot win in Maryland this year, following two Maryland jackpot wins in 2013 when an Anne Arundel County man won $189 million in October and a Mt. Airy couple won $26 million in February. So far this year there have been four $1 million Mega Millions second-tier tickets sold in Maryland.”
The site goes on to talk about recent $5 million give away:
CONCORD, N.H. – A $5 million Mega Millions winning ticket was sold in Keene for the drawing last night, Friday, March 21. The ticket was sold at the Park Avenue Deli & Market, 30 Park Avenue. The $5 million ticket marks the largest Mega Millions winning ticket sold in New Hampshire since the New Hampshire Lottery began offering the game in January 2010. Additionally, a $100,000 winning Gimme 5 ticket was sold last night in Bedford.”
