Robert Rodriguez was looking to expand the original world created by Tarantino's screenplay with his own embellishments in his new television series adaption of From Dusk Till Dawn. Robert knew that he had to get Wilmer Valderrama to play his new villain, and according to the That 70's Show alum, he wasn't unwilling to trick him to get him on board. Legendary director Robert Rodriguez was working with a shoestring budget when making Quentin Tarantino's original From Dusk Till Dawn screenplay in the ninties, but now that he has more time and money Robert would like to return to vampire world to flesh out a few plot lines of his own. He told the Calgary Herald that he was looking to explore some on the ideas that came to him long ago: "I always loved (Tarantino's) script and the characters, but I added some things in the movie that I never got to expand on. [The orginal's] kind of Planet of the Apes ending that leaves you wanting to know more...The show was the perfect opportunity to expand that world into something more sprawling that could last several seasons." Wilmer Valderrama told OK! that he was more than excited to be a part of Rodriguez newest television evolution, but wishes he knew what he was getting into before showing up to work on the project: "I said yes immediately, even before I knew what character I was playing. "Imagine my surprise when I learned I was laying the villain!" Truth be told, whether the 35-year-old actor realizes it or not, Wilmer is always playing the villain.
