Carnegie Hall To Host Solti Centennial Concert Friday Night

The Solti Centennial Concert gets underway at Carnegie Hall on Friday, Oct. 19 at 8 p.m. at the Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage and will feature the World Orchestra for Peace and will be led by conductor Valery Gergiev.

This mega orchestra led by Gergiev is comprised of the Vienna Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra and Mariinsky Orchestra and will be supported by numerous other acts.

Joining the orchestra will be Lady Valerie Solti presenter for the evening and wife of the late Sir Georg Solti. Singers soprano Angela Gheorghiu and bass Rene Pape.

The Alumni of the Solti Academia; Tereza Gevorgyan, Matilda Paulsson, Roberto Carlos Gomez Ortiz, Ross Ramgobin will also be in attendance.While Solti Foundation US Conductor Award Laureate Cristian Macelaru will also be lending himself to proceedings.

This massive company will see audiences through in order Mozart's "Overture to The Marriage of Figaro," "Don Juan," by Richard Strauss, Mozart's "In diesen heil'gen Hallen" from "Die Zauberflote."

Giuseppe Verdi's "Addio del passato," from "La traviata," will follow then Mozart's "La ci darem la mano," from "Don Giovanni," on offer just before "Bella figlia dell'amore," from "Rigoletto," by Verdi.

Mahler's "Adagietto," from "Symphony No.5 in A-sharp Minor," will be the next selection followed by Bartok's "Concerto for Orchestra."

Solti once said."My life is the clearest proof that if you have talent, determination and luck, you will make it in the end. Never give up.

The concert will honor the life of Sir Georg Solti who was a Hungarian conductor and pianist who operated in his native Hungary, Switzerland and more famously in England. He worked with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra offering up the works of Mahler and Bruckner on numerous of occasions.
