Marvel still has three films in the Phase Two production plans and yet everyone is already buzzing about what is in store for Phase Three. One of the heroes proposed for the next wave of films is Dr. Strange. Now Marvel’s head of production, Kevin Feige, has compared the characters use of magic with the new Fox educational series the Cosmos. Meanwhile, it has been rumored that Johnny Depp is one of the actors up for role of the title character.
The mouth of Marvel, Kevin Feige has been very busy talking up the film verse. Recently Feige opened up to Badass Digest about just how magic will mix with science:
“Are you watching the Cosmos series? That’s magic, [the quantum physics]. It’s unbelievable. If somebody knew how to tap into that stuff, what’s the difference between that and magic? You don’t get into it in Harry Potter, but if a scientist went to Hogwarts he’d find out how some of that stuff is happening! We’re not going to spend a lot of time on that, but there will be some of that. And particularly for a character like Strange, who goes from a man of science to a man of faith and who traverses both worlds. And sometimes there won’t be an answer! Sometimes he’ll want an answer--‘How is this happening?!’--and nothing.”
Meanwhile, Johnny Depp has been rumored to play the lead in the possible film. Latino Review broke the rumor a few months back, reporting:
“A well-connected source informed me tonight that Johnny Depp has taken a meeting with Marvel to discuss taking on the role of Dr. Strange.”
However, this casting and even the films production are far from confirmed.
