Lance Armstrong News Update: Nike & RadioShack Drop Cyclist

According to USA Today Lance Armstrong the currently embattled former cyclist has lost two major partners in Nike and RadioShack due to the accusations that are being put against him by the United States Anti Doping Association (USADA).

In documents made public by the USADA last week, the cyclist used performance enhancing drugs and blood transfusion techniques throughout his career, a career that has seen him dominate the Tour de France on numerous occasions.

In a statement sporting giant Nike had this say.

"Due to the seemingly insurmountable evidence that Lance Armstrong participated in doping and misled Nike for more than a decade, it is with great sadness that we have terminated our contract with him. Nike does not condone the use of illegal performance enhancing drugs in any manner."

Following suit with Nike was RadioShack and according to USA Today said in a statement that it has "no current obligations with Lance Armstrong. Concerning the Foundation, we continue to be proud of what we've accomplished with our customers in generating more than $16 million to date in the fight against cancer."

Armstrong stepped down as the chairman of the Livestrong organization and released this statement.

"I have had the great honor of serving as this foundation's chairman for the last five years and its mission and success are my top priorities," the statement said. "Today therefore, to spare the foundation any negative effects as a result of controversy surrounding my cycling career, I will conclude my chairmanship."
