It was widely believed, until recently, that the PS4 was vaslty outselling the Xbox One. Where that might be true overseas, the race is lot closer than we all thought here in the United States. New sales figures are out, putting the Xbox One’s US sales close to 90% of the PS4. With the higher price tag on the One, that means Microsoft may have raked in more US dollars than Sony, and that was all before Titanfall came into play.
The Xbox blog, Xbox Wire, is reporting on the success of the One, writing:
“February NPD Group figures released today [Thursday, March 13] showed that Xbox One continues selling at a record-breaking pace with 258,000 units sold in the U.S. in the month of February, surpassing Xbox 360 sales by over 61 percent at the same point in time.”
And that was just the numbers for February. The system is undoubtedly going to see a rise in sales thanks to the release of Titanfall and the new Titanfall system bundle.
The Xbox Wire blog also reports on the success of the online only shooter:
“Since it launched on Tuesday,[March 11] the Xbox community has been out in force playing ‘Titanfall’ on Xbox Live. ‘Titanfall’ is landing throughout Europe this week and the Xbox team has been excited to celebrate with thousands of fans at launch events around the world and with hundreds of thousands of fans via the broadcast on Twitch.”
Make no mistake, PS4 is still ahead of the pack internationally, but Xbox has a plan to level the overseas playing field.
On Feb 28, the system saw a UK price drop.
Microsoft’s U.K. marketing director, Harvey Eagle, released a statement about the marketing move:
“At Xbox, we believe there’s never been a better time to join the new console generation. To help our fans do just that, Xbox One will be available at the new UK estimated retail price (ERP) of £399.99 from February 28th.”
