Los Angeles Philharmonic & Robin Ticciati Performs Rachmaninoff With Lars Vogt

Pianist Lars Vogt will be joined by conductor Robin Ticciati as he takes over for Gustavo Dudamel on a few nights to direct the Los Angeles Philharmonic through performances of Rachmaninoff on Friday, Oct. 19 until Sunday Oct. 21 at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The Oct. 19 staging of the event will be an 8 p.m. show while the Saturday and Sunday performances will get under way at 2 p.m.

Lars Vogt and company will play Rachmaninoff preferably his "Piano Concero No. 2 in C minor, Op. 18." The nights will also feature Sibelius "Symphony No. 2 in D. Major, Op. 43." Barring the Friday performance the ensemble will play Liadov "The Enchanted Lake."

Lars Vogt is a German concert pianist with eight distinctive albums to his name. The German got his start playing the piano when he started to study at the Hochshule fur Musik und Theater Hannover with Karl-Heinz Kammerling.

1990 saw Vogt become of a famous figure with his second place showing at the Leeds International Piano Competition.

The pianist made his debut with Lorin Maazel and his New York Philharmonic in the 2003/04 season and shares a close affinity with the Berliner Philarmoniker. In 2004 Vogt was awarded the Brahmpreis and the Echo Klassik in his native Germany.

Equally impressive is young conductor British Robin Ticciati who is now the principal conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Ticciati came from a family of musicians. His grandfather Nico Ticciati was an arranger and composer while his brother is a violinist.

The young conductor studied violin, piano and percussion as a youth and was a part of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. He studied at University of Cambridge and is the founder of chamber ensemble Aurora and calls Sir Simon Rattle and Sir Colin Davis his mentors.
