Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs might not be doing so well, the couple announced they are getting divorced at the end of last year, but Idina Menzel's career has never been better. In fact, few people ever get to experience the wave of success that Menzel is presently riding. Idina's If/Then Broadway update has already cleared over $900K and it technically hasn't even started yet; they are still performing the previews.
Adele Dazeem, also known as Idina Menzel, has becoming an unstoppable juggernaut in the musical theater world.
Not only has her animated hit Frozen sold upwards of 1.65 million copies of its soundtrack, her new Broadway musical If/Then looks like it is going to be a spectacular cash cow.
According to the LA Times, not only did the show, still in previews, generate piles of cash in its first seven preview performances, it did so to almost sold-out crowds:
"If/Then" brought in a healthy $909,159 on its first week of preview performances at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
"The show played to more than 95% audience capacity, which is a robust turnout for a non-blockbuster musical still in previews."
Menzel teamed up with some old friends to put together the completely original musical last year for a Washington, D.C. run.
The play, which is set to officially open March 31, has been described by Idina as kind of a mid-life coming of age story (via Inquirer):
"It's a beautiful piece, It's 100-percent original, and it's about a woman my age who comes back from Phoenix, Arizona, to New York City, where she went to school. She's getting a chance to start over. The music is just beautiful."
Taye Diggs no doubt is excited by all her recent successes every time he starts thinking about those future child support checks.
