Nathan Fillion’s ‘Castle’ Episode Update and ‘Firefly’ Limited Series Reboot Rumors

Well, Nathan Fillion fans, there is no new episode of the hit ABC series Castle tonight. However, there may be reason to celebrate. Recently, Firefly producer Tim Minear teased the idea of giving the short lived Fox show a limited run reboot, much like Heroes and 24.

Are you jonesing for more Nathan Fillion? All day Castle marathons on TNT not enough?

Well then we have bad news and good news. The bad news is that there is no new episode of Castle on ABC tonight. The good news, there might soon be a Firefly reunion.

Tim Minear, former Firefly writer and producer recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about getting his old show back. Minear is apparently pushing for the show to return in the form of a limited series reboot:

“I would never foreclose the possibility. The fact that it was even a feature film after it spectacularly failed on Fox was a miracle. And of course it lives on in other forms. In terms of getting the band back together to make a new adventure, who knows? I would love it. It would be great. But first everybody has their respective projects that limits them from crossing over into other things. It’s just trying to coordinate everybody’s obligations so they could somehow participate.”

However, there has been no word from Fox or anyone else confirming that the show will return.

Members of the Firefly fandom might be happy to hear that Heroes is getting a limited series reboot. Where not directly connected to the Whedonverse in anyway, the NBC series is likely to share some of the same viewers.

President of NBC Entertainment, Jennifer Salke, announced the rebirth of Heroes in a press statement:

"The enormous impact Heroes had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening. Shows with that kind of resonance don't come around often and we thought it was time for another installment. We're thrilled that visionary creator Tim Kring was as excited about jumping back into this show as we were and we look forward to all the new textures and layers Tim plans to add to his original concept. Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won't rule out the possibility of some of the show's original cast members popping back in."

Hopefully, Firefly will receive the same treatment. In the meantime, check out this video of Firefly reference found in Castle:
