Despite rumors that John Mayer and Katy Perry are engaged, breakup claims have begun surfacing. Multiple entertainment sources have reported that their wedding, if one was ever really planned, is off.
Alas, Katy Perry and John Mayer are reportedly no longer a couple. According to E! News, friends of the couple have confirmed the split:
"A source close to the pair exclusively tells E! News that Perry broke up with Mayer within the last few days. No other details about what prompted the 'Dark Horse' singer's decision were forthcoming, but Mayer was noticeably absent from Perry's side on her recent trip to London and Milan. She returned home to Los Angeles on Friday."
This announcement caught many fans by surprise, considering engagement rumors were swirling just days earlier. One source recently told OK! that the couple was happily engaged:
"John and Katy are incredibly excited about getting engaged. It might not have been super-romantic because there was a lot of begging on John's part. Katy was a reluctant bride after getting so burned. She loves John on another level that she's not experienced before."
The insider further claims that John is elated with his relationship. In fact, it's made him settle down...and pen a few hits along the way:
"[John] has talked about getting hitched and having kids for years, but he's always moaned about never finding the right woman. He's so relieved that it's going to happen with Katy...John is so inspired by her and has been writing some of the best music of his life."
