Last night Hollywood’s finest gathered to celebrate the best and brightest stars in the industry. However, many of the industries most important and hardest working members will never receive an Oscar. The men and women who make up the production crews are an integral part of bringing TV and movies to life. Last night the Academy honored a beloved member of industry who recently passed away on set. The Vampire Diaries crew member Sarah Jones was added to the In Memoriam, after TV and film crews petitioned the Academy. Meanwhile, Bill Murray also managed to squeeze in a tribute to his late friend and Ghostbusters co-star, Harold Ramis.
Those pretty images and fancy explosions that people see on TV or in movies do not just happen. Truth is, movie magic is really just the result of a lot hard work by a very talented team of people. The Vampire Diaries lost a member of their team a little over a week ago, when camera assistant, Sarah Jones was struck by a train while filming the movie, Midnight Rider.
Following her tragic death, the cast and crew of The Vampire Diaries honored their friend and family member, by petitioning the Academy to add her name to the In Memoriam.
Over 40,000 people signed the petition and the Academy listened. Jones’ name was added to the In Memoriam list.
TVD star, Nina Dobrev recently comment on the Academy’s inclusion of Sarah by tweeting:
“important and an integral part of every film. Its a puzzle. We couldn't complete it without every single piece. #safetyforsarah”
Bill Murray also paid tribute to his friend and frequent collaborator, Harold Ramis, when he added his name to the list of nominees for best cinematographer, ad libbing:
“Oh, we forgot one, Harold Ramis for Caddyshack,Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day."
