Word that Hollywood icon Sean Penn and 38-year-old South African native Charlize Theron were an item was greeted by most folks in and outside Hollywood as a good thing. There are rumors circulating that friend with benefits Keanu Reeves is anything but elated. Word has it that Neo is just as heartbroken as Theron's mother Gerda swears Charlie is going to be, if she continues to get close to the womanizing Penn.
Charlize and Keanu have reportedly shared the same kind of on-again, off-again physical relationship with no attachments that Charlie and Penn also enjoyed over the years.
So it comes as no surprise to those who know him well that Reeves is beside himself with regret that Penn made it work with Charlie before he could.
A friend close to the 49-year-old bachelor told OK! that Special Agent Utah thought he was destined to end up with Theron not Spicoli:
"To see her falling in love with Sean is really hurting him.
"They have been secretly on-and-off for so long, I think he thought they would eventually end up together for good...If Charlize felt overwhelmed or sad, she knew she could confide in Keanu.
"He's a little heartbroken, [but] of course Keanu wants Charlize to be happy."
As upset as Keanu is, Charlize Theron's mother, Gerda, is inconsolable with fears that any emotional attachment to Penn will lead to sure heartache.
A relationship insider told Star that Theron's mom is convinced that Sean is ultimately no good for her daughter:
"The South African native if fearful that womanizing Sean will break her daughter's heart. While the protective mama bear has never minded their friendship, sources say she 'begged Charlize not to let it turn romantic.'"
Too bad for those two, the rest of the people of the planet seem perfectly content with Theron and Penn spending the rest of their lives together, if they even have an opinion on the subject at all.
