The first look at Grant Gustin’s The Flash is finally here. Now fans can finally see what the former Glee star looks like in the red mask. This is just the latest sign that the new TV series is hitting the ground running. It has also recently been revealed that the show has cast a few of its supporting characters, hinting at the possibility of having a black Kid Flash, A.K.A Wally West.
If you had your doubts about Grant Gustin’s ability to play a convincing Flash, then just take a look at the brand new preview photo of him in the mask.
Previously Grant Gustin made a statement to the press about just how relatable playing the superhero can be:
"He's fun to play. He's likable. I would be his friend. I haven't had the opportunity to play a character that I would actually enjoy spending time with."
Geoff Johns, DC comics chief creative officer, told Comic Book Resources about Gustin’s portrayal of the Scarlet Speedster:
"He's earnest. Grant as an actor, he's brought more to Barry Allen then I think we've seen before, especially seeing him in the days of when he's taking his first steps. He's got that heart. He's got humor. He's got compassion--Barry was always a nice guy. He's the guy that stops, makes sure everyone's alright and then keeps going. Grant embodies that."
However, the future Kid Flash may look a lot different. African American actors, Jesse L. Martin and Candice Patton, have been cast to play Detective William West and his daughter Iris. In the comics, Iris West is the Aunt of Wally West, A.K.A the first Kid Flash.
